ODM SPLITS ahead of PARTY polls as Power Wrangles between Jakoyo and Oburu take center stage

A major showdown is looming in the ODM after it emerged that Oburu Odinga and Gem MP Jakoyo Midiwo have worked on two clashing lists containing names of officials they are pushing for top party positions.

Much as both lists front Raila Odinga to play the Party Leader’s role, the lists have different names for all other posts with privy sources to the development revealing that Oburu preferred Ababu Namwamba for the post of Secretary General.

On the other hand, Midiwo and Siaya Senator have teamed up in championing for the retention of Kisumu Senator Anyang’ Nyongo as the party’s national Secretary General.

According to Oburu’s proposed list the party’s chairman will be Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Opranya while Jakoyo demands that  Funyula MP Paul Otuoma be the party’s chairman.

The two warring groups have been sharply criticized by a section of ODM members who maintained that such endorsements  were not necessary given that it’s the role of the party delegates to choose from who will declare interest in different positions.

‘’The constitution gives the power to elect party officials to the delegates and that’s what should guide the whole process as we wait for the election’’ Nyando MP Fred Outa said.
